Pomfret Voices

On the Pomfret Voices home page as built in September 2026, six quotes from the Pomfret archive, 1936 to 1972, lit up one at a time, each year fading in behind them.

The chore

Pomfret’s history of diversity, equity and inclusion, checked line by line. Every claim traces to a source document.

The fix

A checked history of inclusion at Pomfret: 60 moments since 1894.

Timeline

60 moments, 1894 onward.

Archive

Two Pomfret Magazine issues, page by page.

People

Alumni and faculty profiles, Heads of School, Schwartz Visiting Fellows.

On every page

A link to a module on AI bias.

How it works

  1. Every moment on the timeline names its source.

  2. Two Pomfret Magazine issues can be read page by page.

  3. Every page links to a short module on AI bias.

The Pomfret Voices timeline as built in September 2026 slid sideways from 1894 to 2026, its cards turning from sepia to white as the decades passed.

  1. At 0 seconds:1894. Pomfret opens with 42 students.
  2. At 1 second:1949. Students push for integration in print.
  3. At 2.3 seconds:1965. The first African American graduate.
  4. At 2.6 seconds:1968. The board votes for coeducation.
  5. At 4.6 seconds:1975. The first financial aid package.
  6. At 6.2 seconds:1992. Full coeducation.
  7. At 7.5 seconds:2019. DEI becomes a dean-level role.
  8. At 8.8 seconds:2026. The line reaches today.
On the Pomfret Voices timeline as built in September 2026, the 1975 card for the first institutional financial aid package lifted and opened into its full story.
Three of the five signature exhibits (the magazine archive, a campus tour and an AI bias module) drifted slowly past on the Pomfret Voices home page, September 2026.
